Well, that's a weird way to phrase it. Workers? We care about them.
We think they deserve to live with out a Sword of Damocles hanging over their head. Damocles was a king. He had a lot of resources with which to handle that sword, and many responsibilities which made the sword (arguably) necessary. Us normal guys? Just living our lives? Trying to add a little bit of goodness to the world each day? No sword for us.

[[Return to the Library|Homepage]]The internet is... a place! Well, not really. But we "go" there. We spend time "on" it. We meet and we talk and things happen there. Sometimes the things that happen there matter, sometimes they do not. This distinction is largely arbitrary. I have conducted entire friendships on the internet. I have lost multiple real-world friends because of things that happened on the internet. My dream is to make a living putting things on the internet. This dream has already come true, by some metrics, but somehow it feels incomplete, so it remains a dream. The internet was once thought to be better than other places, because it was infinite and could not be snatched up by moneyed interests. Now, more than every before (sic), it is very finite and almost entirely owned by moneyed interests.

But in all seriousness folks, I don't know how we're gonna come back from this one. I mean it's all the wasted money & resources of NFTs with none of the really cool monkey pictures to back it up.
I mean I guess AI could generate a picture of a monkey.
Look that's not really the point.
The point is that... two years ago, I hadn't really touched AI, with the exception of maybe those early DALL-E things from 2020. Now, I've dabbled a bit, and I can feel that it's made me worse at things. Not necessarily in material ways, but when I start to do something like write or draw or something, there's now a little voice in the back of my head saying "just give this to AI." And that's poison! Like I'm out here understanding the environmental and labor impacts, and yet the 5 cumulative lifetime hours that I've spent with AI are <a href="https://youtu.be/XlygrVs--Xc?si=AXi3FcW4Yhm0L3Jb" target="_blank">talking to me like the Green Goblin mask!</a>
